WESTSIDE JUNIOR BASKETBALL

The Woodville District Basketball Club's development pathway is through the Westside Basketball Association. 

Our competition is aimed at players who are just starting basketball, players who want to improve their basketball skills and players who want to get more exposure to match play in a fun and competitive environment.

The Westside Basketball Association is a coordinated introductory program covering all children and schools across the western suburbs. 

We aim to:

• have development programs to improve each child's confidence and abilities
• cater for all age groups, genders, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds to have the opportunity to be involved with the game of basketball
• have a strong local area competition that enables regular participation and development opportunities in a game setting for participants who do not yet have District Basketball skills or ambitions
• provide a pathway between entry programs and the District level of basketball
• offer an alternative level of commitment to District Basketball when the training sessions, travelling to other basketball stadiums and expenditure of District basketball may not suit all families

Competition

Westside Junior Basketball is played at St Clair Recreation Centre on a Saturday afternoon during school terms.

We cater for boys and girls in a mixed competition. 

If there are spaces available, players can join a team at any time during the season.

We offer an optional training session on Sunday afternoons for players who want to learn the fundamentals of basketball and improve their skills. 

2024 sees a change to the timing of our seasons. We will be transitioning to a Winter and Summer season during the year. This will see our seasons align with the District Basketball calendar and complement the seasons of other sports, such as cricket and football, as well as school sports.

The winter season is terms 2 and 3. The summer season is term 4 and term 1 of the following year. 

We encourage external, social teams to join our competition.

Age Divisions 2024/2025

We have U10 to U18 age divisions.

Qualifying ages for each division correspond with District Basketball eligibility.

AGE GROUPS FOR SUMMER SEASON 2024/2025

U10 Born in 2016 and younger

U12 Born in 2014 and 2015

U14 Born in 2012 and 2013

U16 Born in 2010and 2011

U18 Born in 2008 and 2009

U10 divisions play round robin games for the entirety of the season. They do not play finals.

U12, U14, U16 and U18 divisions play finals.

Fees

There is a separate registration fee required for playing games on Saturday and training on Sunday.

Arrangements can be made to pay playing and training fees in instalments if required.

Insurance and Levies

All players are required to pay the Basketball SA Affiliation fee as this covers your insurance whilst playing and training. The insurance is paid when you register to play.

BSA Affiliation Fee

An annual insurance and affiliation fee of $26.79 is set by Basketball SA (BSA).

Insurance is compulsory and only needs to be paid once a year.

A Basketball Australia Game Development levy is payable on registration.

Basketball Australia Game Development Levy - $5.50 per player (annual fee)

Season Dates  - Summer Season 2024/2025

The season commences on 19 October 2024.

The season finishes on 12 April 2025.

Finals are held for U12 - U18 age divisions.

Semi and Grand Finals will be on 12 April 2025.

The last game for 2024 will be on 7th December. We will have a mid season break over the school holidays and return to games on 1st February 2025.

Games

Games times are 12:40 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:20 pm and 3:10 pm on Saturdays. All games are played at St Clair Recreation Centre.

Games are played over twenty minute halves.

Training

Group training sessions are on Sundays at St Clair.

U10 -  1:00 pm - 1:45 pm

U12 -  2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

U14 - U18 -  3:00 pm - 3:45 pm

Coaches

We encourage volunteers to assist our teams with coaching.

No experience is necessary and guidance can be given if needed.

Discounted fees are available for coaches so please apply.

Uniform

Westside Basketball has a reversible jersey that can be purchased on Saturdays from St Clair.

The cost of a jersey is $70.

All players are to wear plain coloured shorts with NO POCKETS.

Social teams joining our competition can provide their jerseys if they desire.

Approval of jerseys from the Competition Coordinator is required before playing.
